My Story

In late 2012, my life and career as a securities litigator were derailed by a major depressive episode. The love of family and friends, medical and cognitive therapies, and a steadfast dedication to my habits of self-stewardship, fueled a thermal of healing that lifted me out of the abyss of clinical depression, helped me to attain enduring sobriety, and allowed me to lead a life of renewed vitality and hope.

I have now given over 175 presentations around the country (in-person and via webinar) on mental wellness, self-care, and resilience. My audiences include legal professionals, students and educators,

I live five blocks from Princeton University, where I played on the varsity tennis team from 1977-1980.  I’m married to educator Laura Docter, am a proud father of two adult children, and now the grandpa of a sweet, beautiful granddaughter. I’m also an avid (albeit creaky) cyclist and tennis player.
