My story is one of resilience, recovery, and hope. I offer insights on self-care strategies and mindsets that helped me fight my way out of the abyss of clinical depression and alcoholism. Check out some of the media resources below.

Short Thought Series

Three years ago, I stopped making New Year's resolutions because I rarely kept them. I now make New Day Resolutions in the form of a daily checklist to remind myself to do some simple self-stewardship such as 25 minutes of moderate exercise, an act of service, starting a project I've been dreading, reaching out to someone I care about, saying something nice (and true) to myself about myself, etc.

A few simple perspectives on defeating impostor syndrome, and liking and accepting ourselves as much as Fred Rogers liked us.

No one likes to fail, but that doesn't mean we have to let the risk that we might fail make us miserable. After all, only the end of the world is the end of the world. In the meantime, take what seem like risks, make a decision, and give tomorrow a little more latitude to take care of itself.

Simple self-stewardhip habits, especially exercise, were key to my healing from a severe depressive episode on 2013-14. Twenty-five minutes a day of moderate exercise have been shown to be at least as effective as anti-depressants and other medications. Ironically, the word "exercise" often makes us feel guilty and mutter "I know, I really should..." instead of saying, "I can't wait!"

There's a certain mystery and intimidation swirling around meditation and mindfulness. The "Top ten self-care tips that change lives" lists we see on magazine covers in supermarket checkout lines invariably put meditation and mindfulness in the top three. But when I ask mentees and others whether those mystical practices are part of their self-stewardship, they often say something like, "It should be, but I'm no good at. My thoughts roam around too much!" Fear not. In this video, I share a few very common sense tips on what I do when I remember to meditate. I'm no guru, and offer no map to Nirvana. But check this out and give me your thoughts!
